Special postal cover released on legendary Indian playback singer P Susheela

The special postal cover was released at Visakhapatnam on Tuesday. Though she had been invited by the Postal Department for the releasing of the postal cover event, but could not attend due to various reasons.
Speaking on the occasion, vice chancellor, Andhra University, PVGD Prasad Reddy said, “it is a memorable occasion of releasing a postal cover on melody queen” while principal, Maharajah’s Government College of Music and Dance, Vizianagaram, R V Prasanna Kumari said, “P Susheela studied in our college and often comes to recollect her memories on how her career has taken to such a long span because of being a student of the College.”
Postmaster general, M Venkateswarlu also spoke and said that releasing a postal cover P Susheela will go a long way in documenting her achievements including life time achievement award and various National and State level awards throughout her career. A QR Code has also been printed on special cover and people can listen to four melodious songs sung by legendary playback singer, P Susheela, after scanning it, added the official.
Susheela was born in Vizianagaram, Andhra Pradesh and has recorded nearly 50,000 songs in 10 different Indian languages, including Telugu, Malayalam, Tamil, and Kannada and other languages, from 1951. She is known also as the ‘queen of melodies' and has been officially credited by Guinness Book of World Records for singing 17, 695 songs in 12 Indian languages in 2016.
She was the recipient of the ‘National Award for Best Singer’ in the years 1969, 1971, 1977, 1982 and 1983. She received Padma Bhushan award in 2008.

Good that they have done at least this. The deep south is consistently ignored when it comes to recognitions. This lady is the equivalent of legendary Lata Mangeshkar who has been crooning for close to 70 years, yet a postal envelope is all that she merits!
