HYDERABAD: Chain-snatchers struck at two places in the city and escaped with 12 tola gold on Wednesday. Police are analysing CCTV camera feed to zero in on the offenders.
Bike-borne thieves snatched away a 10-tola gold chain of BSNL officer Kunti Devi at Street No. 4 of Nagarjuna Nagar near Tarnaka on Wednesday afternoon. The incident happened at 2 pm when Kunti Devi was walking from her house to Keemti Colony in Tarnaka to a tailor at Nagarjuna Nagar.
“A bike-borne thief came from the rear and snatched away the gold chain of Kunti Devi,“ OU inspector V Ashok Reddy said.
In another case, 55-year-old housewife Shantamma lodged a complaint with the Vanasthalipuram police alleging that thieves snatched away her two-tola gold chain while she was sweeping in front of her house at BN Reddy Colony on Wednesday morning. “According to the victim, the incident happened at 6.30 am and two bike-borne thieves were involved in the offence,“ Vanasthalipuram inspector S Murali Krishna said.
However, when police analysed the CCTV camera footage of a men's hostel near the victim's house, they saw Shantamma sweeping and going back into the house without being involved in the crime.
“We have not found any biker or any person approaching Shantamma. As per her complaint, a snatching case was registered, but we will have to examine her and the family members in a few days to find out the truth,“ a Vanasthalipuram police official said.
