HYDERABAD: Parents of N Arun Kumar, a Hyderabadi student shot dead in the US, are in a state of shock ever since they received the news of his tragic death. Kumar was pursuing MS at Stratford University and was working part-time at Norman Grocery store in Bridgeport in the US.
Kumar's parents are natives of Bidar in neighbouring Karnataka and migrated to the city a long time ago.
Arun Kumar completed his education in the city.
The victim's elder brother N Avinash told TOI that Revanth, one of Kumar's colleagues working at the same grocery store, informed them about the incident on July 13 at around 9 am IST. The incident occurred on July 12.
According to him, Arun Kumar was at the cash counter and suddenly two unidentified persons entered the store and tried to steal the cash. "Within minutes, they opened fire at my brother," he added.
"Telugu Association of North America (Tana) representatives on Tuesday informed us that all measures would be made to send the body to the city. If everything goes as per schedule, my brother's body might arrive in the city either on July 16 or 18," Avinash added.
Meanwhile, several Bharatiya Janatha Party (
BJP) leaders, including former state unit president Bandaru Dattatreya, visited Arun Kumar's house at New Satyanarayana Nagar in Karwan and consoled the bereaved family.
Later, Avinash met home minister P Sabita Indra Reddy and appealed to the state government to speed up efforts to fly Arun's body as early as possible. The home minister gave an assurance to make all necessary measures to get the body to the city.
