hyderabad: sivamani, the world famous percussionist, on wednesday declared that he would never again come to hyderabad to perform. a severely upset shivmani told the times of india on wednesday night after he was pulled out of a pub in banjara hills by the police just as he was finishing a private performance for friends: "i was treated like i was a terrorist." incidentally, sivamani was a state guest and had performed at the necklace road on tuesday evening in the festival of ap.
"because it rained yesterday (tuesday), many friends who had wanted to come to necklace road could not. so they wanted to me play for them and i agreed. in fact, i cancelled a lot of work in mumbai to play for them today. but around 10.40 pm, a group of policemen suddenly came in and started pulling away my equipment and pushed me into a jeep waiting outside," sivamani said. "they were shouting, and damaged my equipment which i had collected from 1975 onwards.this was a shame. i never experienced anything like this in my life anywhere," the renowned percussionist said. the banjara hills police said they raided the pub following a complaint. according to them, the programme was organised without permission. however, they did not arrest sivamani, they said. sivamani, in a 'letter to hyderabad' said he was pained at the experience and would never again perform in the city.
