DCA seizes illegal drugs

Hyderabad: Drugs control administration (DCA) of Telangana seized several drugs from a quack's clinic in Bommanapally village, Bhadradri-Kothagudem. The raid also uncovered drugs being marketed with misleading claims.The seized medicines included: P-Mycetin Chloramphenicol Eye Ointment IP (an allopathic medicine for eye infections); Utrinax-F Tonic (an ayurvedic medicine claimed to treat disorders of menstrual flow); ED Phenicol IP (an allopathic eye ointment).At the quack's clinic, DCA officials detected 25 different types of medicines. The total value of the seized stock was estimated at 25,000."DCA officials found several antibiotics, such as Cefixime and Amoxicillin + Potassium Clavulanate, during the raids. The indiscriminate sale of antibiotics by quacks posed a significant health risk, including the potential emergence of antimicrobial resistance," the DCA said, adding that further investigation and action would be taken in accordance with the law against all offenders.tnnThe DCA also detected misleading drug advertisements circulating in Khammam, Nizamabad, Hyderabad, and Sangareddy. These included claims that certain medicines could treat conditions such as ‘kidney stones', ‘disorders of the prostate gland', ‘disorders of menstrual flow', and ‘eye infections.' "Such claims violate the drugs and magic remedies (objectionable advertisements) Act, 1954, which prohibits the advertisement of specific drugs for the treatment of certain diseases and disorders. No person shall take part in publication of advertisements for treatment of diseases specified under the Act," the DCA said on Thursday.
