NEW DELHI: A delegation of Congress MPs belonging to the Seemandhra region on Wednesday evening met Union finance minister Pranab Mukherjee and submitted a letter seeking an appointment for party functionaries from the two regions with him in the coming week to discuss the situation in the state.
The MPs, K V P Ramachandra Rao, Kavuri Sambasiva Rao, S Shailajanath, J C Diwakar Reddy, Vundavalli Aruna Kumar and K Satyanarayana Raju told Pranab that the party workers from Seemandhra regions wanted to meet him with regard to the political developments in the state following the resignations by Telangana elected representatives.
"We wanted the finance minister to give time either on July 12 or 13 so that they can express their views regarding the agitation for the division of the state being carried out by the leaders from the Telangana region," said one MP who was part of the delegation.
According to the MP, Pranab reacted positively to their request and promised to give the Seemandhra delegation time on either of the two days. The MPs also told the finance minister that the Congress high command should take no decision on the Telangana issue without consulting the leaders and the people from the other two regions.
Earlier, Pranab gave an earful to Telangana leaders when they went to meet him. Two groups of Telangana leaders - MPs and state leaders - went to see Mukherjee late on Tuesday night, only to find him agitated over their decision to send resignations to the speakers. Mukherjee angrily questioned them about the rationale of coming to him "when you have taken the extreme decision".
