School van driver gets 20 years punishment for rape of 3 year old

HYDERABAD: A 46-year-old G Ramakrishna accused of sexually assaulting a three year old girl in a private school at SR nagar, was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for life. The XII Additional Metropolitan Sessions Judge Cum Special Fast track at Nampally, T Anitha who delivered the verdict in the case on Wednesday, also directed him to pay a fine of Rs 5,000.

Ramakrishna, who was then working as the school van driver, would pick up and drop the girl every day. One day, he noticed the girl alone in the school premises, took her into an isolated area and assaulted her. Later, he dropped the girl home along with other children. A CCTV at the school showing him taking the girl aside, coupled with the girl’s statement in the court detailing the act, proved his guilt before the court.

A Ram Reddy, Additional Public Prosecutor told TOI that the girl clearly identified him before the court and detailed how he assaulted her. The CCTV footage also made the case strong, resulting in conviction of the accused.

The girl was then studying Nursery in the school and the accused was a van driver in the same school. On the day of the incident, when he came to the school for his first trip, he noticed the girl was alone.

Taking advantage, he touched her inappropriately and sexually assaulted her.
On her return home, she told her mother about it, following which a complaint was lodged against him and he was arrested and sent to remand.

Police then examined the girl, her parents, school staff, and verified the CCTV footage showing the accused and the girl together on the day of the offence. All this evidence and the girl’s statement stood against the accused.
