HYDERABAD: Mild tension prevailed in Malakpet after it was discovered on Friday that a general knowledge book taught at a local school had a sketch of Prophet Mohammed.
According to sources, the Class V general knowledge book, Trendy Kids Brain Storm, published by Delhi based Vidya Prakash, has a lesson on page number 18 under the title Persons and Places.
While it has names and sketches of religious personalities like Lord Ram and Jesus Christ and places to match against them like Ayodhya and
Jerusalem, it also contains an imaginary sketch of Prophet Mohammed and Mecca.
Since the Muslims consider drawing the real or imaginary sketch of the Prophet blasphemous, the community leaders reacted strongly. As the news spread about the sketch, the activists of Majlis Bachao Tehreek (MBT) led by its leader Majeedullah Khan Farhat went to the Malakpet police station on Friday night and lodged a complaint. He demanded immediate withdrawal of the book and arrest of the publisher.
Meanwhile, MIM Malakpet MLA Ahmed Balala spoke with the management of St Dominique School at Saleemnagar colony and cautioned that if they did not pull out the book, there could be trouble.
