SBI cashier held by CBI for ₹ 5.2cr bank theft

The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested the cashier of State Bank of India’s Narsapur branch for stealing ₹5.2 crore from the bank’s vault and ATMs.

Hyderabad: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Monday arrested the cashier of State Bank of India’s Narsapur branch for stealing ₹5.2 crore from the bank’s vault and ATMs.
A Nagender, senior Associate & cash in-charge, was arrested based on a complaint from SBI officials that the accused had misappropriated ₹2.32 crore in cash, gold ornaments valuing ₹0.72 crore which were under his control and also cash totalling ₹2.2 crore from three ATMs.

Searches were conducted at the premises of the accused at Narsapur which led to recovery of incriminating documents, official said. The arrested accused was produced before the special judge for CBI cases in Hyderabad and remanded to judicial custody till September 17.
SBI officials said Nagendar did not attend office on June 21, 2022, and when the branch manager contacted him over the phone, the former informed the manager that he would attend work half-an-hour late due to death of a relative.
