According to a survey done by TOI in association with Varenia CIMS, 16% of residents feel government jobs hold the greatest potential in Secunderabad.
Surprisingly, the preference for government jobs is higher among Secunderabad youth, with more than 22% in the 25-30 age bracket showing higher resonance to be in government jobs.
Nikhil Jamedhar, who works with an IT company, says lack of job security in the private sector is the reason for youngsters opting for government jobs.
In a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous) world, job security coupled with stability and good salary increments score over the uncertainty of the private sector and the gig economy.
In fact, hundreds of students move into Secunderabad every year for civil services coaching as it has built a reputation as a major hub thanks to scores of private UPSC training centres mushrooming here.
