Sanction Phase-2 of Hyderabad Metro, Congress MP urges Centre
Hyderabad: Congress MP Ch Kiran Kumar Reddy on Tuesday urged the central govt to immediately sanction the Hyderabad Metro rail expansion project, covering five corridors (76.4 km), as the detailed project report (DPR) was submitted to the Centre in Nov 2024.
Raising the issue in the Lok Sabha, Kiran Reddy, who represents Bhongir in the LS, explained that Greater Hyderabad is a fast-growing mega city, significantly contributing to the nation's economic growth. However, with an explosion of private vehicles, the city is facing increasing traffic congestion and pollution levels. To address this problem, Phase I of the Hyderabad Metro Rail covering three corridors (69 km) was implemented with Rs 22,000 crore, and there is an urgent need to expand it to many other parts of the city.
“It may not be out of place to mention here that the Govt of India sanctioned metro rail projects as joint venture projects, and they are under construction in more than 20 cities. In 2010, Hyderabad Metro was the second-largest network next to New Delhi, and presently it is in the ninth place,” he added.
As he raised the issue under Rule 377, the Centre is likely to reply to it soon during the ongoing parliament session.
Responding to a query raised by Congress MP Kadiyam Kavya in the Lok Sabha, Union Minister for Promotion of Industry and Internal Trade Jitin Prasada provided updates on the development of industrial corridors in Telangana. The query specifically addressed the status and initiatives related to industrial corridors in the state, aimed at boosting economic growth and infrastructure development. He highlighted ongoing efforts to establish industrial corridors in Telangana. While specific details on the projects were not fully disclosed, the minister underscored their commitment to advancing industrial infrastructure in the region through strategic planning and collaboration with state authorities.
