WARANGAL: Two minor girls from Patna who had fled their homes were rescued by the police at Kazipet and handed over to their families on Thursday night.
The two girls, studying in Class X, had boarded the Patna Express in their school uniform with a Tatkal reservation made under pseudo names from Patna. They had boarded the train on the morning of February 27.
According to police, Preethi Singh and Sakshi Priyadarshin were friends and had run away from their homes after reserving tickets to Secunderabad. After the girls went missing, the parents approached the police, who alerted railway authorities and Government Railway Police (GRP) as they suspected that the girls had boarded the Patna Express.
When the train reached Sirpur Kagaznagar, the police who entered the train identified the girls. They were made to speak to their parents but the girls refused to divulge their true identity to them. The girls, both 17, had reserved tickets under the pseudo names Inayat and Jaya.
With police taking over the compartment for the sake of the girls, the two girls became nervous and consumed sleeping pills in the train toilet.
A passenger from Hyderabad, Sathyam, returning from
Kumbh Mela with his family, came to the aid of the two girls who admitted that they had consumed sleeping pills.
After the train reached Kazipet station, the authorities shifted them to a private hospital at Hanamkonda where doctors confirmed that they had consumed sleeping pills. They said their condition is stable.
On Friday morning, Ratnesh Kumar Singh, father of Preethi Singh, and Haridayal Mishra, father of Sakshi Priyadarshin reached Hanamkonda. The girls were handed over to them by the railway and police authorities.
Ratnesh Kumar Singh, who practises in the Patna High Court, and Haridayal Mishra, a businessman, met Warangal urban superintendent of police A Venkateshwar Rao and left for Patna with their daughters.
