Hyderabad: A ticket inspection by a TGSRTC enforcement squad turned violent in Sangareddy district on Friday after a conductor allegedly assaulted checking officials with footwear and passengers joined the attack.
At 8.30am, TGSRTC in-charge TTI (travelling ticket inspector), enforcement squad, Sangareddy, Peddadoddi Yesaiah, 60, along with TTI V Prakash were conducting checks along the Zaheerabad–Narayankhed route. As part of the enforcement drive, they stopped a Narayankhed depot bus (TG15-Z-0082) near Kappad village in Jharasangam mandal, police said.
During inspection, the officials claimed that conductor D Vasanth, 37, had collected 20 from a passenger, but had not issued a proper ticket. Instead, a zero-value Mahalaxmi (MHL) ticket (No. 20192 A57539) was issued, police said according to the FIR.
Officials said they prepared a charge memo against the conductor and attempted to serve it on him at the spot. At that stage, Vasanth allegedly refused to sign the memo and entered into an argument with the checking staff. According to both the complaint and TGSRTC authorities, the conductor then obstructed the officials from performing their duties, incited passengers travelling in the bus and provoked them against the squad.
Passengers allegedly attacked the inspectors, while the conductor also reportedly joined the assault and hit officials with his slipper.
However, an alternate version circulated locally, claiming that the dispute began after a passenger was found without a ticket and members of the squad allegedly demanded 20,000 from the passenger and the conductor to avoid booking a case.
RTC authorities, however, rejected the claims and maintained that action was initiated after detecting a ticketing irregularity.
