hyderabad:strange are the ways of those who want to make a mark in politics, especially the easy way. meetings with the decision-makers in the respective parties notwithstanding as the interested persons push their candidatures for a ticket to the upper house of parliament, the ubiquitous letter too is used to push their case. this has been the route adopted by some muslim leaders of the telugu desam party in their bid to woo chief minister n chandrababu naidu to get themselves nominated to the rajya sabha.
“it is not an eulogy nor a false flattery that i express my sense of admiration and appreciation with implicit confidence in your style of functioning and envious programmes. it is you and you alone, that, within a short spell of your rule, the envisage policies are taking the practical shape (sic),� says k m safiullah,wakf board member, in his request to the cm. for good measure, his letter added: “may i mention sir in recent election of the member of ap state wakf board, the muslims all over andhra pradesh voice there hole hearted support through there respective muthawallis and elected me a one of the member of the board, i promise, sir, that i will rise upto your expectations and never do i give scope for any lapses (sic).� some other aspirants addressed naidu by calling him ‘his excellency’, ‘saviour of humanity’, ‘real leader in the entire country’, ‘dynamic chief minister’ and so on. instead of talking more about their achievements or services to the tdp, several aspirants have listed the ‘great achievements of mr. naidu’. urdu academy chairman syed shah noorul haq quadri too submitted a similar application. but for a change, he concluded the letter saying, “if you are considering the candidature of tdp general secretary lal jan basha, then treat my application as deemed to be withdrawn.� interestingly, lal jan basha has not submitted any application and does not consider himself as a candidate. k m saifullah, current rajya sabha mp, published a 150-pagebook on naidu titled ‘the man who gave me an opportunity to prove myself’ to ensure re-nomination. listing his achievements, he concludes by saying he was able to bring so much of development only due to naidu.
