KURNOOL: A special police party of the Kurnool Central Crime Station (CCS) led by circle inspector T Chandrasekhar, arrested three thieves and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 90,000 from them.
According to the police, V Muralidhar Reddy, from whom ornaments worth Rs 50,000 were recovered, had been cheating people, particularly women and children, and stealing gold ornaments from them.
In an incident, he cheated a person named Kalavatamma of Atmakuru at a hospital in Kurnool town and took her to Handri river, where he snatched her gold chain and ran away.
He stole at least four gold chains from children in the town.
In another incident, the police arrested a person named P N Venkateswarlu of Velugodu village and seized two gold chains worth Rs 12,000 from him. Venkateswarlu had stolen the chains in Nandyal town.
The CCS police also arrested one Pasupuleti Raju of Bethamcharla, and recovered gold ornaments worth Rs 30,000. He used to pose as an astrologer and steal gold from the public, the police said.
