Rs 3.23 crore cash, 1.8 kg gold seized in 24 hours

HYDERABAD: The police have held 9 men and recovered Rs 3.23 crore cash and 1.8 kilo gold since Tuesday night. Of the 9, three were nabbed at Jubilee Hills with cash worth Rs 2.11 crore. The money, police said, was meant to be distributed to public to vote in favour of Congress candidate Turupu Jayaprakash Reddy alias Jagga Reddy.


Task force sleuths intercepted two cars at Road Number 36 in Jubilee Hills and seized a cash amounting to Rs 2 crore, in possession of three men identified as A Prakash, SV Krishnam Rajum, both employees of Haridwar Infrastructure in Road Number 10,

, and R Kiran Goud, a businessman from Sanga Reddy.

According to an official release by task force additional DCP, P Radha Kishan Rao, the trio collected the cash from T Raja Ramesh, owner of Haridwar Infrastructure, to influence people of Sanga Reddy constituency to vote in favour of Jagga Reddy. The three men were handed over to Jubilee Hills police for further investigation.

In another case, task force sleuths apprehended one K Ganesh Goud, employee of Nandi Tyres & Tubes, at Adarsh Nagar, when he collected Rs 45 lakh cash from one Sumith Agarwal at Saifabad on the instructions of his employer. Goud was to deliver the cash to one Dass Robert. The cash was seized.

A hawala operator, Mayur Ram Gulabani, owner of Legend Pearls at

, and his associates, Sanjay Kumar Jha and D Yadagiri, were nabbed at Jambagh on Tuesday night. They were trying to deliver Rs 50 lakh cash and 1.8 kilo gold to one Mahender Agarwal.

Raids were conducted at Trison Impex in Ranigunj, and one Naresh Angara was held. The sleuths recovered Rs 6.53 lakh cash from him. Other than the three held at Jubilee Hills, all accused were handed over to the income tax department.

On Wednesday, Balanagar police raided Vimal cinema hall, and seized Rs 8.87 lakh cash from a locker. One B Shankar was nabbed at Saroornagar on Wednesday while he was allegedly trying to distribute Rs 90,000 in cash and 144 liquor bottles to voters.
