HYDERABAD: If a Central government order slashing the retirement age of its staffers from 60 to 58 comes through, as many as 30 IAS and IPS officers here would be gone.
And, all of them would be top guns of the ranks of chief secretary, director-general of police, special chief secretaries and additional directors-general of police.
At one stroke, it could leave a clutch of senior positions vacant and force the government to go on a hunt for quick replacements.
Several senior officers, aware of the move, say they''re disturbed that the Centre is "tinkering" with the retirement age and suggest that an uncompromising stance be taken against it.
Signals emanating from New Delhi suggest that the government is inclined to go for the retirement age reduction formula and the left-wing parties too have indicated their no-objection on the ground that such a move would help create more jobs.
As per a list drawn out by the government, among those who would have to go if the decision is implemented are chief secretary Mohan Kanda, special chief secretaries K C Misra, V K Agnihotri, Lalit Mathur and S K Pachauri, C D Arha, A V S Reddy, A N Tiwari, P C Parakh, S Anwar, T K Dewan and N S Hariharan. This would mean the entire top layer of babudom.
The list also includes officers like P V Satyanarayana Murthy, C Uma Malleshwar Rao, D S Murthy, D C Rosaiah, I Venkateswarlu, B Kripanandam and A Madhusudhan Reddy. The order would also mean marching orders for 17 IPS officers and among the sufferers would be DGP S R Sukumara and city police commissioner R P Singh.
Among other police service officers who would have to go are P Ananthasayanam Reddy, E S Lakshminarasimham, A K Shrivastava, Ch Koteswara Rao, I J Nagia, C Dothanga, K Vijender Reddy, C S Naidu, P Ramanarayana, M V Dinakar Prasad, K Narasimha Murthy, A Gopal Reddy, Ramavtar Yadav, Kamal Kumar and Swaranjit Sen.
