SECUNDERABAD: The tussle to become vice-president of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board has begun among civic ward members. The incumbent J
Ramakrishna, representing Ward No-V, is facing a no-confidence motion.
In 2015, except one, seven ward members had won the Cantonment Board general elections with the support of the ruling
Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS). The TRS, later, went on to capture GHMC.
Since then, the TRS high command has been monitoring SCB ward members closely. TRS had selected Sada Kesava Reddy (Ward No-II, Rasoolpura) as the SCB vice-president for two years from 2015 March to 2017 April. Later, J Ramakrishna (Ward No-V) became the vice-president from 2017 April with the assurance of the TRS high command. Ramakrishna’s tenure was completed in 2018 May but he has still held on to the post. Ramakrishna had become the vice-president on the condition that after one year he would make way for J Maheswar Reddy (Ward No-I).
"Ramakrishna is continuing as vice-president even though his tenure ended in April, 2018. I moved a no-confidence motion as he did not respond to my plea," Maheswar Reddy told the media on Tuesday. He has sent letters to president of the Cantonment Board and Dy GOC, Brig Upadhyay, and SCB CEO, SVR Chandrasekhar, to convene a special meeting on the issue. “I have support from members of wards II, III and VII to win the no-confidence motion,” he said. J Maheswar Reddy told TOI that that he has the blessings of the TRS party high command for the motion.
When contacted, the SCB vice- president J Ramakrishna said: “I am aware of the issue."
