HYDERABAD: With the red army storming the 'green citadel', the Old City is undergoing a political metamorphosis. In the past few months, Communist parties—CPM and CPI— have launched several agitational programmes in the Old City.
They have not only won the hearts of people of the walled city, but also attracted many young men to join the red brigade.

Interestingly, the swelling cadre base of the Left-wing parties has left the MIM high and dry. Delimitation of Assembly constituencies has raised hopes of non-MIM parties on increasing their voter base.
The CPI and CPM are leaving no stone unturned to woo the Muslim youth for making a strong base. In the process, the assured vote bank of MIM has been eroding fast.
The two Communist parties are making joint efforts to increase their profile in the Old City. For now they are concentrating on Karwan, Charminar and Asifnagar Assembly constituencies.
