RANGAREDDY: Counting for the Telangana Municipal Corporation elections is underway across 116 municipalities and seven corporations following Wednesday’s voting. In Ranga Reddy district, results have so far been declared for 73 wards, with Congress winning 27, BRS 32, BJP 9, and independents 5.

Across the state, Congress was leading in 300 wards, BRS in 170, and BJP in 48 as of 10.45am, according to early trends.The counting process is expected to take time as ballot papers were used, with postal ballots counted first.The counting began at 123 centres at 8 AM. Officials said the outcome of the three-cornered contest between Congress, BJP, and BRS will be closely watched as an indicator of each party’s popularity among voters.Over 73% of voters exercised their franchise. Congress is aiming to consolidate its position as the dominant force in the state, while BJP hopes to emerge as an alternative ahead of the 2028 assembly elections. After setbacks in the 2023 assembly polls, 2024 Lok Sabha elections, and two assembly bypolls, BRS is looking to revive its fortunes with strong municipal poll gains.
