On Thursday, the rain started around 3pm and continued for two hours, leading to knee-deep water accumulation in several areas, including Aramghar, Somajiguda, Attapur, Malakpet, and Langar Houz. This necessitated the intervention of DRF teams to manage waterlogging.

The intense rainfall dam- aged roads in several areas, notably the TTD temple road in Jubilee Hills caved in, forcing motorists to navigate the compromised stretch.

Numerous trees were uprooted in areas such as Sultan Bazar, Moti Nagar, and Chintal. Water stagnation was also reported in Karthikeya Nagar, Nacharam, Sultan Bazar, Malakpet, Yousufguda, Sanjeeva Reddy Nagar in Miyapur, and Arunodaya Nagar in Nagole.

Even flyovers were affected, with severe waterlogging on the PVNR expressway complicating travel for those heading to the airport.

GHMC commissioner Ronald Rose instructed officials to alert residents in low-lying areas about the potential risks posed by the rainfall. He also directed zonal commissioners to ensure the swift drainage of rainwater from roads to prevent flooding.

He stressed the need to address complaints and urged citizens to exercise caution, recommending they only go out in emergencies.

TRAFFIC TURMOIL IN CITY
Office-goers faced a gruelling return home as they struggled through waterlogged streets amid extensive traffic snarls. In areas like Ikea and Biodiversity junction, traffic moved at a snail’s pace. Busy hubs such as Panjagutta Circle, Begumpet Flyover, Shaikpet Flyover, Dilsukhnagar, LB Nagar, Nizampet, and Secunderabad were heavily congested.

ANGER OVER BLACKOUT BLUES
Heavy rainfall in Hyderabad caused widespread power outages. While some areas experienced brief outages, places like Ram Nagar, Sun City, Malakpet, and Gudimalkapur faced power cuts lasting one to three hours, frustrating many residents. People took to social media to voice their concerns and request prompt restoration of electricity. “There has been no power for the past two-three hours in Balaji Nagar in Gudimalkapur.
