TIRUPATI: A top naxalite leader, Jangadi Kumar Swamy (29) alias JK alias Srinu alias Madhu, a close associate of Takkellapalli Vasudeva Rao, the prime suspect in the Alipiri blast case, surrendered to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the incident.
SIT chief D T Naik told reporters on Tuesday that Kumar Swamy, who hails from Taralapalli village in Warangal district, had earlier worked as the divisional committee member of the Nallamala forest division of the People’s War (PW) and was involved in several crimes which included the blasting of two police stations in Srisailam, four murders and one kidnapping.
He took part in several PW operations in Kurnool and Prakasam districts, Naik said. The naxalite gave himself up to the police four days ago, Naik added.
Later, Kumar Swamy told reporters that he decided to surrender after having been a member of the PW for 16 years. “I want to lead a peaceful life like other people. I committed many crimes but now I want to reform myself, he said. He also added that another reason for his surrender was that he was not keeping good health,’’ he added.
He said his wife Shanti, a member of the PW’s Tiger Project dalam, was killed in an encounter with the police six months ago near Markapuram. Answering a question whether he could reveal any information on the Alipiri attack on chief minister Chandrababu Naidu, he maintained that he was unaware of the mission until the news of the attack broke out.
He said that whenever the PW takes up a mission, only those who are to execute the assignment are given any information.
