ADDANKI, Prakasam: People''s War (PW) naxalites led by a woman commander blew up a police station here early on Wednesday and carried away 24 weapons and 2,000 rounds of ammunition from the building.
Eye-witnesses said about 20 armed extremists reached the police station in a mini bus around 2 am and overpowered the lone constable guarding the premises.

The naxalite commander ordered constable Anjaneyulu to hand over his gun. They then stormed the premises raising slogans.
They also captured two other constables — Rajeswara Rao and Srinivasa Rao — who had been sleeping inside the building. The policemen were pushed into the old police station building, located closeby, and tied to a pole.
The extremists broke open the bell of arms and collected all the .410 Muskets, numbering 24, and 2,000 bullets. They also planted two buckets of detonators in the police station building and triggered them with a wire from a distance.
Guntur range IGP P Chandrasekhara Reddy reasoned that they did not foresee a naxalite attack on Addanki police station located on the Hyderabad-Ongole state highway.
Police sources said the attack was clear shift in PW’s strategy in spreading its spheres of influence to new areas.
