HYDERABAD: Claiming that no polio case was registered in 2009, state health and family welfare minister D Nagendar on Friday said that efforts would continue to make sure that the state remains polio-free. He said the pulse polio immunisation programme will be organised on January 10.
At a media conference on Friday, the minister said a total of 63,766 polio booths will be set up to administer polio drops to children aged between 0-5 years across the state.

In addition, 1864 mobile teams are being pressed into service to cover children of migratory families, workers at construction sites and fishermen community in coastal areas. House-to-house visit programme to detect children who did not take polio drops will be taken up on January 11 and 12 while on January 13 a special camp will be organised in all municipal corporations.
Stating that polio immunisation scheme was taken up under National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), Nagendar said that the Centre had allocated Rs 10 crore for this year.
