Proposal to reopen 6th road on SCB table soon

Secunderabad: While the ministry of defence (MoD) issued orders to reopen five roads in Secunderabad Cantonment that have been shut for civilians, the sixth stretch — Empress Road — is yet to be freed of the restrictions. This 900-metre-long road near the All Saint’s Road - Wesley Church, Trrimulgherry falls under A-1 defence land is still not accessible to civilians. “A proposal to reopen Empress Road will be placed before SCB’s board meeting set to be held in the next couple of weeks. After the board’s consent, the resolution will be forwarded to the defence panel that is pursuing the road closure issue in the MoD, through the principal director, Southern Command, Pune,” said a senior official from the Secunderabad Cantonment Board.On an average, 20,000 commuters use the Empress Road on a daily basis. Its closure, has left them inconvenienced and compelled them to use longer routes. Meanwhile, sources said that of the 39 roads that the MoD has given its go-ahead for reopening, SCB has managed to get the largest share.
