Programme on geriatric care commences in city

Visakhapatnam: A three-day orientation programme on geriatric care for functionaries of

old age

homes commenced in the city on Wednesday. Organised by Sneha Sandhya Age Care Foundation (ACF), Nightingales Medical Trust (NMT), Bengaluru in collaboration with Visakhapatnam District Senior Citizens Welfare Association (VDSCWA) at Pradhama Hospital, various stakeholders including lawyers, doctors, differently-abled department officials and social workers will participate.

Dr TVS Rao, president of VDSCWA during the inaugural of the orientation programme said, “The need of the hour is to exponentially increase interventions that improve the quality of life of the elderly.”

Participating as chief guest of the programme, K Venkateswara Rao, assistant director, department of differently-abled, transgender and senior citizen welfare, government of Andhra Pradesh said, “Ageing is inevitable and most aged people are left alone at home, confined to solitude with minimal care and support. So, there is great need for having fully-functional geriatric units in hospitals.”
