Probe 10,000 cr scam, forest destruction in T: KTR urges PM

Hyderabad: BRS working president KT Rama Rao has called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi to demonstrate his environmental commitment by initiating a swift investigation into the alleged destruction of the Kancha Gachibowli forest and a 10,000 crore financial scam in Telangana.In a public appeal shared on X, KTR accused the Congress govt of orchestrating a massive alleged fraud and challenged Modi to refute claims of BJP-Congress collusion in the state.The controversy centres around the devastation of over 400 acres of ecologically sensitive forest land in Kancha Gachibowli, adjacent to the University of Hyderabad. KTR described the situation as an "environmental catastrophe" and a "grave financial fraud." The forest — home to peacocks, deer, and endangered species — is crucial for Hyderabad's groundwater table but was allegedly cleared for an IT park and infrastructure projects, despite protests from students, environmentalists, and a Supreme Court order halting auction activities.KTR claimed that the Telangana govt mortgaged 400 acres of Kancha Gachibowli land, lacking legal title, to secure a 10,000 crore loan through intermediaries, without obtaining environmental clearances or forest department approvals. "This isn't just about biodiversity loss; it's a 10,000 crore scam by the Congress govt," he stated.The Supreme Court's central empowered committee (CEC) confirmed financial irregularities and recommended investigations by central agencies including the CBI, RBI, SEBI, SFIO, and CVC. The BRS has submitted supporting evidence to these bodies.Referring to Modi's April 14 remarks in Haryana condemning deforestation in Telangana, KTR questioned whether they were "mere lip service." He urged the PM to expedite investigations to prove his environmental commitment and counter the perception of BJP-Congress collusion."It's time to show Telangana that the BJP and Congress are not working hand-in-hand — and that you genuinely care about environmental protection," KTR said.
