hyderabad: the power supply to the a p state haj house at nampally is likely to be disconnected on tuesday following non-payment of electricity bill. the electricity bill of about rs 84,000 of the 11-storied haj house, is yet to be paid although the due date has expired almost a week ago. according to sources in the central power distribution company limited (cpdcl), the power supply to the building would be snapped on tuesday if the management fails to clear the bill.
interestingly, there are no funds available with the 12-member haj house management and development committee (hhmdc) to pay the power bill as it is yet to hold its first meeting and also open a bank account. earlier, the expenditure incurred to get power connection to the building was borne by the haj house construction committee which was abolished soon after the constitution of the hhmdc. incidentally, a p transco general manager mir kamaluddin ali khan is a member of the hhmdc. the hhmdc was constituted on december 22 last by the state government with municipal administration minister n md farooq as its chairman. though it was the hhmdc’s responsibility to fix rents for the wakf board and the haj committee, who have occupied one floor each in the building, it has failed to meet even once since its constitution to decide on such matters. with the haj house being a wakf property, the wakf board has refused to pay any rent for its office on the entire first floor. it has also refused to pay maintenance charges unless the hhmdc creates a house-keeping department and fix a common rate for the entire building. interestingly, board chairman mohammed saleem is the vice-chairman of the hhmdc. farooq was not available for the comment while saleem refused to comment on the issue.
