HYDERABAD: A thief created panic at a sleepy neighbourhood in Meerpet after he snatched a gold chain from a housewife by approaching her as a prospective tenant on Tuesday.
The victim, Krishnaveni, 52, is a housewife from Sumitra Enclave in Jillelaguda of Meerpet. A portion in
Krishnaveni's house was vacant and they hung a 'To Let' board on the gate to attract prospective tenants.
At 11.45 am, a 35-year-old man went to Krishnaveni's house to see the vacant portion. After looking at all the rooms in the vacant portion, the man informed Krishnaveni that he would return in an hour with his wife. At 12.30 pm, the same man approached Krishnaveni saying that his wife was in a nearby locality and they want to see the vacant portion again.
While waiting at the house, the thief requested Krishnaveni to give him some water. "When Krishnaveni brought the water in a glass, the thief snatched her four-tola gold chain and fled away on the bike," Meerpet inspector P Sreedhar Reddy said.
Alerted by locals, police rushed to the spot and launched a man-hunt to nab the offender. A case was registered under section 382 (Theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
