He first married his sister's daughter Mangamma in 2001. Since then, he went on to marry five more women.
He ditched Mangamma and reached Tirupati where he developed extramarital relationship with one Sailaja. After six months of their relationship, he was arrested by the police on the charge of theft of Rs 1 lakh from a marble company where he worked for a brief period.
After release on bail, he reached Khammam and married one Ina Lakshmi in 2006. He had two children with Lakshmi. Later, he shifted his base to Karimnagar and worked with a builder. He decamped with Rs 5 lakh from the builder. With police booking a case, Venkat Rao fled the town and reached Vijayawada. In 2007, he fled with a car from Vijayawada and deserted it near Rajahmundry. He later landed in Madhira and married one Radha.
Subsequently, he duped another girl Pavani of Gadwal and took her to Hyderabad by force. A case of kidnap is pending with the LB Nagar police against Venkat Rao since 2008. In 2010, he reached Ongole and forcibly took away a girl named Pavitra and married her.
The DSP said more than a dozen cases are pending against Venkat Rao in different police station across the state. He said Venkat Rao acted as a builder and real estate businessman and decamped with lakhs of rupees from gullible people. In addition to the six marriages, the police said Venkat Rao is believed to have duped several others.
The accused was caught near Marturu in Prakasam district while he was fleeing with money stolen from two traders on Saturday. Rural inspector I Srinivasan and his team worked overtime to nab the offender.
