Police probe death of college student who attempted suicide over test scores

HYDERABAD: A second year intermediate student who allegedly attempted suicide ten days ago at her college in Kothapet in Hyderabad, died while undergoing treatment early on Tuesday.

The incident was reported from Chaitanyapuri police limits.

The girl, 16, belonged to ST Lambada community and hailed from Nagar Kurnool district. Police said the girl took the extreme step as she was upset over her low scores in the weekly tests conducted at college.

According to police, on July 20, the girl attempted suicide in her room in the college hostel. Her friends saw her and alerted the college management.

Her parents were informed and the girl was taken to a nearby private hospital. Two days later, she was shifted to another private hospital.

On Monday, she was shifted to Osmania Hospital, where she died during treatment. Following a complaint by her parents, Chaitanyapuri police registered a case and started an investigation.
