Police personnel get insurance cover

HYDERABAD: The entire police force in the state, comprising over 80,000 personnel, has been provided life insurance cover by SBI Life Insurance Company.
The master group insurance policy document was handed over to Inspector General of police (welfare) Lokender Sharma by the company''s managing director and CEO R Krishnamurthy at a function held on Monday.
Under the new scheme, all police personnel belonging to ''Bhadratha'' - the AP Police Department Employees Benevolent and Thrift Mutual Association - have been provided with a group life insurance cover of a minimum of Rs 1 lakh to a maximum of Rs 2 lakh by SBI Life at an affordable premium. The policy also provides a personal accident cover.
Krishnamurthy said the association with the AP police was the company''s way to ensure the safety of the families of policemen. IGP Sharma said the AP police was first in the country to have taken steps to insure the lives of its personnel.
