each centre will be manned round-the-clock either by a constable or a home guard and they are entrusted with the job of keeping an eye on drunken brawls, streetfighting and eve-teasing in their respective areas. the seven centres, opened on nov. 1 this year, have already started showing good results, raju said. the sp, accompanied by other police officials, visited a few ppks located at panduranga nagar, chandra nagar, malkajgiri and kukatpally on friday to elicit public opinion about the kendras. residents of panduranga nagar told the sp that the presence of police curbed the activities of rowdies in the locality. at chandanagar, the residents informed the sp that the constable manning the ppk, took note of a theft case and immediately alerted the police station. "the very presence of uniformed personnel was having a great impact on the morale of public in the area," the residents said. later, talking to the times of india, ramachandra raju said the constables were also asked to move around in the colonies, keep a watch on the bus stops and other public places and take those people involving in drunken brawls and eve-teasing into custody. the sp said similar kendras would be started at all 26 urban police stations, abutting hyderbabad city for effective maintenance of public order.
