HYDERABAD: A thief who stole Rs 1,80,000 from the boot of a car parked outside a house in Falaknuma was arrested within an hour of the theft being reported to the police.
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, DCP (south) Harish Kumar Gupta said the complainant, Mohammed Moinuddin Quadri told the Falaknuma police that he had put Rs 1,30,000 in a polythene cover and kept it in the boot of his car on Friday evening.
But, the next day he found that the cash was missing.
According to the DCP, inspector I T V S Suryanarayana and sub-inspector Mohammed Ghouse started investigations immediately after the incident.
"The inspector listed the persons who had access or watched the vehicle from close quarters. They included the complainant’s driver and an unemployed young person of the locality, Syed Arif Ali."
The police officers visited the residences of both the men and took their statements. Further probing revealed that Arif Ali stole the money from the car. The cash which was recovered from Arif Ali and handed over to the complainant, the DCP said.
According to the DCP, major offences happening in the Old City included burglaries, vehicle thefts, theft of cash from vehicles and that of criminals impersonating as goldsmiths polishing off gold from jewellery given for polishing.
"As far as burglaries are concerned we are ready to offer locality-specific security to areas in the Old City. We have requested residential associations to talk to us and help prepare security plans for their areas. On the other type of offences, we have time and again issued pamphlets for public awareness," he said.
