TIRUPATI: Police arrested the key accused Budda Reddy Srinivasa Reddy along with four others in connection with the YSRCP leader Pasupuleti Subba Rayudu murder at Sitaramapuram in Nandyal district on Thursday.
Police have so far arrested 16 persons in connection with this sensational murder case which has led to a political slugfest between the ruling TDP and the YSRCP.
It may be recalled that a group of around 40 men stormed into the residence of Subba Rayudu and attacked him indiscriminately with sticks, stones and knives, leading to his instantaneous death on August 4. His wife Balasubbamma who tried to save her husband was also injured in the brutal attack.
While the police department has maintained that the murder was due to a three-year-old land dispute when both Subba Rayudu and Budda Reddy Srinivasa Reddy were in the YSRCP, the opposition party has accused the TDP of promoting vendetta politics by targeting and eliminating YSRCP leaders.
Two police officers including Nandyal rural CI Sivakumar Reddy and Mahanandi SI Nagendra Prasad were suspended on grounds of negligence in this case.
Meanwhile, the police department, which took up investigation into the case seriously, arrested 11 accused on Wednesday and five more on Thursday.
The accused arrested by the police on Thursday were identified as Budda Reddy Srinivasa Reddy (51), Koraprolu Bharat Reddy (19), Shaikh Mujaitullah (37), Kandula Ramabhupal Reddy (43) and Dudekula Khasim (41).
