Telangana government, which submitted details to CWC at a meeting held in Delhi on Wednesday, pointed out that six villages of Bhadrachalam and Burgampadu mandals often get submerged by Polavaram flood and its pleas to CWC have fallen on its deaf ears. It presented Survey of India maps and images of eight outfall canals of the project along with full reservoir level (FRL) details to CWC. The CWC authorities asked Andhra Pradesh government to cooperate for the joint survey.

State irrigation officials said they have highlighted about submergence of villages by Polavaram flood in previous meetings of CWC, but it did not accept their argument.

Telangana officials also told CWC officials that as per the directions of the NGT, a joint survey on flood flows of Kinnerasani and Murtedu streams when Polavaram reaches FRL was conducted. NGT had directed the AP government to demarcate the areas from the mega project and to study other six streams under Polavaram project along with Manuguru heavy water plant and Bhadradri temple, but it was not taken up till now, the officials said at the meeting.

Odisha irrigation officials urged CWC to study impact of Polavaram flood on their state in the wake of 2022 floods in their state and take necessary steps.
