corporator K Srilatha’s husband holding an AK-47 assault rifle went viral on social media on Wednesday. Police said they are inquiring into the issue.
Rajendra Nagar police said Mahatma, husband of Korani Srilatha, had switched off his mobile phone and became incommunicado. No gunmen were allotted to either the
corporator
or Mahatma. Police suspect the weapon might belong to the gunman of either an MLA or an MP. “Once we contact him, we can know from where he got the weapon. Depending on the details of the inquiry, we will corroborate with the person to whom the weapon was assigned by the department,’’ Rajendra Nagar inspector G Suresh said.
Police sources said if the weapon was not misused, there might not be any case against Mahatma. In case, if the gunman had given the weapon to Mahatma for taking a photograph, departmental action might be initiated against him based on the instructions of senior officials.
