HYDERABAD: The Pharmaceuticals Export Promotion Council of India (Pharmaexcil) has struck a Memorandum of Understanding with South Korea for trade cooperation in pharma and biotechnology.
The MoU was signed with Korea Pharmaceuticals & Bio Manufacturers Association at ‘Korea Pharm and Bio 2023’ in Seoul.
Pharmaexcil DG R Uday Bhaskar said, “India holds G20 presidency and South Korea is one of the countries of G20.
The MoU with KPBMA has special significance. It is aimed towards information exchange, trade and cooperation in the areaof pharmaceuticals and biotechnology products and also to promote market access between the countries. ”
South Korea pharma market is estimated at $22 billion with 46% market categorised as generics and 36% patented and 17% OTC products in 2022. Cost containment measures and universal health coverage there provide a good opportunity for generic medicines from India.
