HYDERABAD: Demanding that the government immediately release a government order (GO) making it clear that contract assistant professors will be paid their enhanced salaries starting November, contract lecturers working under Osmania University and its constituent colleges on Wednesday threatened to boycott examination duties from Thursday, if the government failed to honour their demand.

Apart from examination duties, contract assistant professors said, they would also boycott classes and not resume duties till the government issues written guidelines.

"Education minister

Kadiyam Srihari

himself had officially announced that we would be given a 75 per cent hike on our current salaries from November 1.

"Yet, till date no guidelines or GO has been released. Worse, university officials have made it clear that we won't be getting our enhanced pay until the government issues a written notification," said Dharma Teja, president, Osmania University Contract Assistant Professors .

Reiterating that all contract assistant professors working in Osmania University will boycott their duties, he said that it would have an adverse impact on the semester exams that are scheduled to begin on Thursday.

"We are more in number than the regular employees. Also, with part-time and non-teaching contract employees already on strike, it would be very difficult for the university to conduct exams as per schedule," A Parshuram, president, Universities Teacher's Association Contract -TS (UTAC-TS) said.

He added that the government is conspiring against them by just making 'false' announcements.

S Ramachandram, vice-chancellor of Osmania University, on the other hand, said that they haven't received any strike notice from the contract professors. "We haven't received any notice from the contract assistant professors regarding boycotting exams and regular classes. However, we will now have to see if we can conduct exams without the support of contract employees and then take a call regarding the exams, accordingly.'
