Passengers save RTC bus driver's life

HYDERABAD: The passengers on an RTC bus came together to save life of the driver in

Karimnagar district

of Telangana on Wednesday.


The bus driver, Darini Mahender, was driving the bus on Godavarikhani- JBS (

Secunderabad

) route when he felt severe chest pain. But Mahender decided to continue driving till he reaches a hospital or any suitable place to drop the passengers. However, he collapsed on steering wheel after driving for just four to five kms near Raghavapur. | Read this story in Telugu

, one of the passengers, who is also a doctor, gave first aid to the driver while other passengers tried to call 108 ambulance service. But there was no response from the ambulance service. It was when a passenger named- Tirupathi, a driver in Singereni, volunteered and decided to drive the bus to the nearest hospital in Peddapalli town. But there were no doctors or medical equipments available in the Peddapalli hospital. So it was advised to shift Mahender to another hospital.

Rani, who was constantly in touch with her senior officials, decided to hire a private ambulance to shift Mahender to another hospital. But she needed more money as the cash collection from tickets was not sufficient to hire a private ambulance. When being told by Rani about the cash crisis, all the passengers pooled in the money and booked a private ambulance in which driver Mahender was shifted to a private hospital in Karimnagar town.

Mahender is currently undergoing treatment there and his condition is now said to be stable.

While speaking to the press, RTC regional manager, Jeevan Prasad, praised the efforts from the driver in ensuring safety of the passengers. He also appreciated passengers' cooperation.
