Hyderabad: Panjagutta police have arrested five members of an attention diversion gang and recovered Rs 12 lakh worth stolen gold from their possession.
Police have nabbed P Durga Prasad of Jeedimetla, M Srinivas Chary of Yakutpura, S Mohan Chary of Malkajgiri, G Brahmaji of Hafeezpet and V Ravi Kumar of Kukatpally.
According to deputy commissioner of police (DCP), West Zone, A Venkateswara Rao, the five were employees of JC Brothers jewellers, which has two branches in Dilsukhnagar and Kukatpally.
On May 12, B Narasimha, a representative of JC Brothers jewellers, lodged a complaint with Panjagutta police alleging that some of the workers had stolen 48 tola gold from the workshop at Zainab commercial complex at Ameerpet. Police registered a case. After a thorough probe, they nabbed the offenders on Monday from their homes and recovered 40 tola gold from their possession.
Punjagutta police also arrested two thieves and recovered 15 stolen saris worth Rs 2.5 lakh from their possession.
The culprits were identified as T Ramana and M Ramana from Tadepally in Guntur district. The duo along with their associates, Rajani, and a 15-year-old girl, had gone to Diya Sarees in Somajiguda on May 4 posing as customers and, by diverting the attention of the sales persons, stole 15 saris.
Based on a complaint lodged by the shop owner, police analysed CCTV camera footage at the shop and identified the offenders. The thieves were caught while moving suspiciously at Panjagutta on Monday and the stolen sarees were recovered from them.
