hyderabad: with fears of war breaking out between india and pakistan increasing by the hour, there has been a spate of inquiries from pakistani nationals in the city about the availability of seats on flights of pakistan's national carrier, pakistan international airlines (pia), in the past seven days. with tension mounting on the border, they are opting for the quickest route, by air, back to their homes in pakistan.
the number of bookings from hyderabad, on pia flights from mumbai, rose sharply after indian airlines stopped its flights to karachi about two-and-a-half months back. k m fareeduddin, manager,rajhans travel services, a general sales agent (gsa) for pia in hyderabad, said there has been no intimation of any of pia's flights being cancelled, after pakistan's airports were put on high alert on thursday. people in the city, who would have normally gone to pakistan by train from new delhi, have also been flooding the gsa with enquiries about the availability of seats on pia flights.with rates of the carrier being slashed drastically, post september 11, flying back to pakistan has now become a more viable option for these pakistani nationals.
