hyderabad: this year’s padma awardees from the city, were on tuesday felicitated at a simple function at the iict in the city by the a v rama rao foundation. those felicitated were padmashri prof d balasubramaniam, research director of the l v prasad eye institute, padmashri dr c ganguly, chairman and chief executive officer of the nuclear fuel complex, padmashri dr g n rao, director of the l v prasad eye institute and prof i v subba rao, the vice-chancellor of the acharya n g ranga agriculture university.
also felicitated on the occasion was dr seyed e hasnain, director of the centre for dna fingerprinting and diagnostics, one of the youngest scientists to win the g d birla award. the programme was followed by the a v rama rao foundation lecture by padma vibhushan prof c n r rao, an eminent chemist. speaking on the occasion, hasnain said the presentation of padma awards to so many people from the science and technology fields augured well for this sector while dr s k joshi, former director general of the council for scientific and industrial research said there appears to be something special about the city which has produced the padma awardees who were felicitated on tuesday. the gathering also greeted dr a v rama rao, the former director of indian institute of chemical technology on his 68th birthday which fell on tuesday.
