Vishal's death comes days after a woman was attacked by a pack of dogs in Hyderabad's Manikonda while she was out on her morning walk. The state has seen a string of stray dog attacks in recent days with at least 11 deaths in the past 12 months.

"A pack of 3-4 dogs attacked Vishal and mauled his neck. He also suffered serious injuries on other parts of his body," Patancheru inspector Praveen Reddy told TOI. Police registered a case under CrPC section 174 (suspicious death).

The attack took place close to a construction site in Isnapur where Vishal's parents work. He was alone when the strays pounced on him around 6.30am. By the time his parents reached the spot, Vishal was dead.

Boy mauled by dogs was to join school
Police said the boy's parents had shifted to Hyderabad from Bihar and have been working at the construction site, close to which they had been provided accommodation.
