Land transfer for new OGH bldg completed

Hyderabad: Months after the state govt gave its nod for construction of a new Osmania General Hospital (OGH) building in Aug this year, the land transfer process from the police department to the health department has been completed.Chief minister A Revanth Reddy announced that the new building will be constructed at Goshamahal and the 32 acres of land, which housed the old police quarters, had been identified for the purpose."The transfer process was completed a fortnight ago and plans are afoot to create massive infrastructure facilities in the new building, keeping in mind the requirements of the next few decades. A budget of 2,000 crore has been earmarked for the building," said a senior health official.The hospital currently caters to 2,000-2,500 patients a day and has a constant waiting list for in-patients and surgeries. Operating on a makeshift basis, the hospital is currently facing a severe space crunch and often has to postpone elective surgeries and admissions.The state govt has also sought 250 crore from the World Bank to bring in equipment for the OGH as part of a massive infrastructure development plan.
