Organiser of city theatre group arrested, sent to judicial remand

HYDERABAD: Organiser of Sutradhar Theatre Group, Vinay Varma, was arrested by Narayanaguda police on Tuesday and sent to judicial remand following a complaint stating that he had allegedly asked female students of his workshop to remove their upper garments.
On April 18, a 21-year-old female student had lodged a complaint with the police, claiming two girls in the class were asked to remove their upper garments in front of male students during a workshop.When they refused, they were asked to leave the workshop, she said.
Following this complaint, Vinay was arrested under Sections 354 A (sexual harassment and punishment for sexual harassment), 506 (criminal intimidation), and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman) of IPC.
The accused had earlier claimed that what he had done is a well accepted practice across the globe.
He has been running the institute for the past two decades.
