Only small projects given to Telangana: Cong MP

Hyderabad: Charging the Centre of meting out injustice to Telangana since its formation, the Congress said several promises, including irrigation projects, steel plant and transport infrastructure, made in the AP Reorganisation Act, 2014 are not being implemented.During a discussion in the Lok Sabha on the bill to make Amaravati the capital of Andhra Pradesh on Wednesday, Congress MP from Peddapalli Gaddam Vamsi Krishna said the Telangana agitation was fought on three main points — Neellu, Nidhulu, Niyamakalu (water, funds and jobs).Vamsi said: "The Centre should stop the Banakacherla project being taken up by AP on the Krishna river. The Centre is supporting the project favouring the AP govt in the name of ‘double-engine sarkar'."On airports, Vamsi said there are at least seven airports in Andhra but only one airport in Telangana that is operating commercial flights. "The proposed airport project in Peddapalli has not moved forward. Thousands of crores are being given to Andhra Pradesh while Telangana is getting only small projects worth around 100 crore when it comes to railway projects and lines." Vamsi said, "Because of Polavaram project backwaters, there is a threat to two lakh people in Kothagudem and Bhadrachalam. Their lives are in danger." The Congress MP mentioned unfulfilled promises such as the Bayyaram Steel plant and the 20,000 crore power bill that Andhra Pradesh still owes to Telangana. He also highlighted the urea crisis at RFCL Ramagundam in his constituency. "There is a urea crisis in RFCL, Telangana, but there is no crisis in Andhra Pradesh. Even the industrial corridor and the semiconductor facility were denied to Telangana," he alleged.
