Nurses' strike continues for second day

HYDERABAD: For the second day in a row, services were hit at the Osmania General Hospital on Sunday as nurses stayed away from work.
About 230 nurses from the hospital said they would continue their protest unless more recruitments are made. "Our strike will continue on Monday and thereafter unless we get more hands to help us out," said Vijaya Nirmala, general secretary of the Telangana Nurse Association."The Telangana government must realise our predicament," she added.
While the wards in the 1,400-bed hospital wore a deserted look, many patients from far-flung areas of the state turned up at the hospital, unaware that doctors had no nurses to help them in any of their tasks.
"The treatment is getting delayed and we can't help matters as only a handful of nurses are working at the emergency and other departments," said an on duty doctor. Vijaya Nirmala said that they are ready for talks if the government is ready to hear their grievances.
