HYDERABAD: Over three years after the sensational murder of Non-Resident Indian (NRI) Chigrupati Jayaram, a local court in Nampally on Monday convicted prime accused Rakesh Reddy while acquitting 11 other accused, including three policemen.
In 2019, Jayaram was murdered in Jubilee Hills, but accused Rakesh Reddy tried to project it as a road accident case near Nandigama in Vijayawada.
During the investigation, the Andhra Pradesh police had suspected foul play, concluded that it was a staged accident and traced some of the people involved in the case. The police said it was a case of murder. Rakesh Reddy killed the victim at a house in Jubilee Hills as he had a financial dispute with the victim, police said.
After the murder, Rakesh Reddy is accused of taking the help of other accused, including an assistant commissioner of police and two inspectors.
However, after the trial in the case, the court acquitted 11 members and convicted Rakesh Reddy. After pronouncing the verdict, the judge said that the quantum of punishment for Rakesh would be decided on March 9.
