Freedom fighters' associations in AP are now planning to make a movie on the evolution of the national flag.
HYDERABAD: Many films have been produced on national leaders and their struggle for freedom of this country. But hardly any of them has highlighted much about the inspiration behind the leaders or the whole country that led everybody to fight against the British rule. Even as the entire country salutes the national flag on every Independence and Republic Day, the story behind the evolution of the national flag has not hit the screen so far.
Taking a cue from this, freedom fighters' associations in Andhra Pradesh are now planning to make a movie on the evolution of the national flag of the country. The film, to be a full-length movie of two hours, will be produced by a voluntary organisation-Lok Awaaz. The AP Freedom Fighters' Cultural Committee and a host of other organisations like Gandhi Bhavan Trust are said to be supporting the project.
... ... The film would focus on the evolution of the first national flag that took shape in 1906 and the changes made to it subsequently, film director Kalyan Chakravarthi said. Extensive research has been done to gather facts from various sources about the origin of the country's national flag and the alterations made to it before the tri-colour was made the national flag in 1947, the director told the Sunday Times of India on Saturday. From 1906 to 1947, the flag had been altered nine times but it was the inspiration behind the freedom fighters to challenge the British rule, Chakravarthi said. The film is being made as part of the centenary celebrations of the year of Swadeshi movement, Andhra Pradesh Freedom Fighters' Cultural Committee founder president K B Tilak said.
